Happy 170th, (sometime this year) Necco!!

This year, marks a happy, unique anniversary for all candy lovers and Americans..not just the trademark eponymous product but company, Necco Wafers!

CERTAINLY the oldest candy in America, as I've so BLOGGED before, it was a longtime 19th favorite, with a (apprently) very sparing (few) flavors, but it became in 1910 available in eight flavors.

And the rest, as the longtime radio entertainer/historic commentator Paul Harvey (whom I am sure had that story in his library and told it on raido many times)
might have said..
is...the rest...of the story.

Those distinctive and in some cases totally mis-colored flavors for Necco Wafers:

*chocolate

*cinnamon (white)

*clove (violet)

*lemon

*lime

*orange

*wintergreen (pink)

In 2009-2011, as many know, the candy went all natural to exclude lime.

More in the label below. Also search on Google for information on this (happily discontinued since 2011) disaster.

Many stores still have 'em..usually for 1 dollar for each typical 2 inch roll, even less..

Sweet Tarts

SWEET TARTS

Throughout the now two year old history of this blog, I have made lovefests for candy. AH....but man doeseth not live by lovefest alove...
and I have done stuff on Nik L Nips..so, and I will question ...why..why..why..why..WHY Sweet tarts all the time..now, granted it's not the worst
, or, in this case, sourest of these,..I DO like some of these, but they're not always my favorite and from now, hopefully, in the future, a series of
sour candy reviews, diatribes, or I SHOULD say, diet-ribies, will follow.

The idea started generaitons aog as sweet and tart candy. This seems to be a very good idea, but tell me..o-kay. Salted chocolate. Salted chocolat.

Sweet Tarts..It's like tempting a children's taste..you eat sweet, then tart....then there are the Sour Patch Kids..more modern era, I may get around to
haranging THOSE. WOnka co.(which really should stay mjuch more chocolate-ly) makes these..

Happy New year and the Happy irony of the fate of Wonka

Back after New Year's and happy New Yar's day to everyon and happy second anniversary of this generally retro-style candy blog. I have mentioned a lot of times, maybe not here but as, and I'll give my name here, SteveCarras, about ironically Wonka chocolate, a MAIN, (book/movies' title-relevant!-you know, "Charlie',"Wonk'a and chocolate) part of the legacy, has currently disappeared for the major Wonka country, USA, though the movie song "Candy Man" is used for rival M&M! (M&M/Mars). Wonka, IS owned by USA and international chocolate making Nestle, so the candy bars from Nestle are FAR well in supply..Nestle chocolate,e Butterfingers, etc. But I hear "Candy Man" from the original with M&M's..very good, but serving a rival..!

Hope you like this first news day post...
